One of our program goals at Little Acorns is to ensure open communication between staff, parents, and children. We know that parents offer information and insight that is irreplaceable in the growth and development of their children. Therefore, it is our goal to keep the lines of communication between parents and teachers completely open. We promote this in variety of ways which are described in detail below. We know that collaboration between staff and parents is in the best interest of the children.

Our Open Door Policy

At Little Acorns, we have an open door policy. This means you, as a parent, are free to visit or join in at any time. We encourage parent involvement and participation and have many fieldtrip volunteer opportunities.

Parent Advisory Board

At Little Acorns we offer quarterly parent advisory board meetings. These meetings, which are open to all parents, allow parents and administration to get together and discuss a wide variety of topics, such as parent concerns, changes in the child care, and child education and development.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences are held twice a year, usually in the fall and spring. This time is formally set aside for you to meet with your child's teacher and learn about his or her progress. Remember, you are welcome to set up a time to meet with the teacher at any time during the year to see how things are going.

Children Moving to a New Room

We know that moving up to their next classroom is a big transition. When this time comes, your child will visit his or her new room for a week before their move-up date. We also offer a parent/teacher meeting, so you have time to meet their new teacher and the staff in the new room, and become familiar with the new schedule and surroundings.

Snow/ Bad Weather Days

In the case of dangerous weather, for your child's safety, we follow the Orono School systems' school closings. You can hear about school closings on your local news or radio station.
